How to make a podcast and upload it
Intro
In this hub i basically am going to teach you how to podcast. Everything from the materials needed, to how to upload it.
I hope you find it useful.
Step one.
The few most important things of a podcast are
- A topic - Something that your podcast will be about.
- Podcasters - People on the podcast
Once you have decided What You are going to do you podcast about, you need to get some Podcasters. If you do not know anyone who is interested in Podcasting with you, then you need to find some people over the net to do it with. http://podcastalley.com/forum Is a good way to find people to help or do the podcast with. Also you can give me a message, i am more than happy to join in on your podcast
Step Two
Website Design is Step two.
You need to make a huge and very important choice for step two. You need to decide whether you want a good website with a .com Domain, Or an easy to update and change website, With a Subdomain, such as www.gamercancast.webs.com .
If you can, your best bet is to use html, and Ftp and use a .com domain. You can make a nice looking but simple Html Website in dreamweaver.
Step Three
The Right Programs
You need the Quite a few programs for this. Firstly you need to decide if your podcast will be a local podcast, By local i mean going to a house or office and all recording together. Or using Skype and getting a Skype recorder. Skype is easier in the long run, but finding the right program can be tricky. There is quite a few out there, but some you have to pay for and some free ones are terrible. I am yet to find a good free one. I recommend Call burner if you want to pay, You can try the 30 day trial and see if you like it.
Secondly, you need to use a editing software, to put your recording in, and to edit in music and any sound effects you want. Audacity is probably the best you are going to find for free. And is very easy to use.
You will also need something to make music, as you cannot use copyrighted music for obvious reasons. So you need to take this into your own hands. If you have a mac you should try out GarageBand. But if like me you don't, you should check out this site http://making-music.blogspot.com/2006/01/big-list-of-free-music-making-software.html it has a list of music making software
Step Four
Inner Script
I was unsure what exactly to call this bit.
It isn't really a script, but more a list of topics, Because if Your Podcast has or had a script. Rip it up. 3 Reasons
- Takes too long to write
- You sound like cardboard cutouts
- You can't Discuss properly
You want to be able too be free to chat about stuff. So basically Choose a few topics you want to talk about.
As i am a Gaming Podcaster, the sorts of things you could talk about is News, Recent Releases, What your Playing and Gadgets. And obviously expand on this.
In The topics you choose, also put subtopics, So for news, include the News Stories you will talk about, And Recent releases in Recent Releases. I Know its simple and obvious, but Very Useful
Step Five
Hosting Website
You obviously need a website to host your podcast for you. I recommend Podbean, it means you don't have to Faff around with RSS feeds, it does it yourself.
The only issue i can see with this, is the 30Mb Limit per episode. So when you save your podcast in audacity, if it is over 30 Minutes, you are almost guaranteed you will go over the limit. So when you are saving, go to "File>Export>Options and change quality from 128KBS to 64KBS" You will barely notice the difference, but it will halve the size.
Step Six
ITUNES
You want your podcast on iTunes, it is where you will get most of your hits. So to get it on iTunes, simply download iTunes, Go to the podcast section, and on the right there should be a black area, with a few options. Click on "Submit a Podcast" And follow the steps on that page. Oh, and if you use Podbean like i recommended for the host, you can find the RSS Link on you Podbean Dashboard.
